Below are two sample Lesson Plans, both geared toward lower grades in the K-12 range, specifically Grades 2 and 5 respectively. Feel free to use either or both, they should be easy to adjust for your specific class and needs:

This plan is based on the 2014 Caldecott Medal winning children's book "The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend" by Dan Santat. In it, children are guided through the process of brainstorming to design their own imaginary friend, and then draw and create that friend from cut construction paper.

This plan is based on the 2011 Caldecott Medal winning children's book "The House in the Night" by Susan Marie Swanson and Beth Krommes. In this lesson, children are tasked to create thier own scratchboard art project.
I was very fortunate to be able to visit a local classroom for a few weeks in the Fall of 2016, and assist in teaching a Graffiti Art exercise with some very talented kids.
